What are the essential qualifications for a Medical Officer (Psychiatry)?

To be eligible for the Medical Officer (Psychiatry) position, you must possess a recognized MBBS degree qualification. This qualification should be included in the First Schedule or Second Schedule or Part II of the Third Schedule of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. If your educational qualification is included in Part II of the Third Schedule, you must also fulfill the conditions specified in sub-section (3) of section 13 of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. Additionally, you need to have completed a compulsory rotatory internship and have at least 03 years of experience in a recognized hospital.

Are there any desirable qualifications or experience for this role?

Yes, there are desirable qualifications and experience that can enhance your application. These include:

  • Three years of work experience in a medical college or a large Government/recognized private hospital.
  • Possession of an M.D. or M.S. degree in an appropriate branch of Medicine or a diploma in the concerned specialty or Super-specialty, as mentioned in Section-A or Section-B in Schedule-VI of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare notification G.S.R. 272(E) dated 07.04.2022.
  • Alternatively, a Postgraduate Diploma in an appropriate branch of Medicine or a diploma in the concerned specialty or Super-specialty mentioned in Section-A or Section-B in Schedule-VI of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare notification G.S.R. 272(E) dated 07.04.2022, along with at least 01 year of experience in a recognized hospital.
  • It is preferable if the above qualifications (Diploma/MD/MS) are in Psychiatry.
