What are the essential educational qualifications for a Scientific/Technical Officer?

To be eligible for the Scientific/Technical Officer post, you must have a B.E. or B.Tech. degree in a relevant field, or an M.Sc. degree in a relevant field, or an MCA degree. You need to have obtained a first-class grade or an equivalent grade (6.5 in a 10-point scale) and have a consistently excellent academic record.

Alternatively, if you are an existing employee of the Institute, you can be considered if you have served as a Technical Assistant (SG II) for at least 5 years with a Grade Pay of Rs. 4800/-, or as a Technical Assistant (SG-I) with a Grade Pay of Rs. 5400/- in PB-2 with two years of regular service in the Institute.

What are the desirable qualifications for a Scientific/Technical Officer?

While not mandatory, having work experience in a relevant field is desirable. This includes experience in the maintenance of scientific equipment, system administration, and software development in fabrication and support to research. Additionally, candidates who hold a Ph.D. in the relevant field will be preferred.

What is the pay scale for a Scientific/Technical Officer?

The post is in Pay Level-10, with a Pay Scale of Rs. 56,100/- per month. After five years of service, an incumbent will be assessed by the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) for moving to a higher Grade Pay of Rs. 6600/- with the same designation.

What is the age limit for direct recruits for this post?

The age limit for direct recruits is 35 years. However, this is relaxable for Departmental Candidates up to five years in accordance with the instructions or orders issued by the Central Government.

What is the method of recruitment?

The recruitment is primarily through direct recruitment (75% of vacancies). If direct recruitment is not possible, then deputation (including Short Term contract) will be considered. For the remaining 25% of vacancies, recruitment will be through promotion, failing which by deputation (including Short Term contract).
