What are the main responsibilities of a Senior Assistant Librarian?

The Senior Assistant Librarian assists the Head Librarian in the operation and functioning of the Library/Resource Center. This includes tasks like digitization of important and valuable resources, procurement of relevant e-books, e-magazines/journals, and strengthening the resource systems at the Library Resource Centre. They are also involved in managing Library- Resource Centre Memberships, circulation, reader-related issues, acquisition procedures, approvals, and sanctions. Additionally, they handle the classification of books and AV materials, archival collection, classification, restoration, and maintenance. They also manage institutional contacts, including memberships and Inter-Library Loans, and provide reference services. Any other tasks assigned by the Higher Authorities of the Institute are also part of their role.

What are the essential qualifications for this post?

To be eligible for the Senior Assistant Librarian position, candidates must possess a Degree in Library Science/ Information Science from a recognized University. They also need to have experience in Library Automation and Administration.

What experience is required?

A minimum of five years of service as an Assistant Librarian in a recognized Institution is required. This experience should be in the grade pay of ₹4,200/- or equivalent. Experience in Library Administration is also essential.

Are there any desirable qualifications?

Yes, candidates with an M. Phil/Ph. D in Library Science/Information Science and Documentation are preferred. Additionally, knowledge of Computer: Degree/Diploma/Knowledge is considered desirable.
